Girl Empowerment: In Unity There is Strength

19 Nov 2017 by Owran Green

As we were doing our Annual photo shoot with our athletes, our youngest and very talented runner found out today that she wasn't the youngest anymore. Our newcomer is a bright eyed and bushy tailed track star in the making that hit the ground running. Once our former budding member caught wind of the youthful newcomer, she became a bit sentimental. With emotions flying high, both girls had a heart to heart. Without any intervention or direction from any of the coaches or parents, all the other athletes saw what was happening and huddled to give their support. It was an endearing and empowering sight to see such young girls coming together, not only to support someone they've known for so long, but also to embrace a newcomer.

As adults we complicate things by sometimes over analyzing. Often times, we can take queues from our children as their response to certain situations are mostly true to nature and genuine in its purest form. The seed we sow and nurture in our children, be it good or bad, will grow exponentially as they grow older. We all know, love/hate is a learned behavior, so parents, be mindful that our kids are watching. Let's keep on teaching them how to love no matter the circumstances. Young girls empowering others today will be women empowering the world tomorrow. In Unity there is strength.
